Myrtleford's
International Festival has existed in a number of forms since its inception in
1980. Throughout its evolution it has always remained a celebration of the dynamic
multicultural character of the Alpine Valleys Region. In
2003 this historical event was reborn as the Allegro International Festival. With
this new identity, the festival promoted cultural tolerance and wellbeing through
a colourful medley of music, dance, film, food and wine. This
great tradition continues in October 2004 when the Allegro International Festival
will herald the celebration of Myrtleford's 150 th birthday. This
year's festival will showcase the rich culinary traditions that reflect the region's
colourful migrant origins through key events such as the “Golden Olive” Awards.
The Great Alpine Salami Challenge will remain and is set to become Australia 's
pre-eminent amateur salami competition. The Alpine Valleys Budburst Ball will
once again enchant those who set foot into the magically transformed setting of
the old tobacco shed. Foreign language and English films will be screened over
the weekend in the historic Myrtleford Cinema. The
Food and Wine Fair will move to the Myrtleford Showgrounds to fully accommodate
the wealth of regional produce and Alpine Valleys wines. With cooking demonstrations,
a producers market, olive oil tastings, a parade of international costumes for
children, wine master classes and a full-day program of music and dance performances,
there is truly something for everyone to savour. Charge
your glasses and get ready for a vibrant multicultural experience. Vive
